Barred Owl House
SKU: 10190
This Barred Owl is slightly larger than a barn owl and sounds like a typical "hoot owl." This barred owl house can be mounted high in a tree with the two metal hangers. Bottom of side opens for ease in cleaning. The barred owl house is handcrafted in Maine from eastern white pine. Each barred owl house is constructed to last and includes a brochure that describes the species, and the placement and maintenance of the birdhouse. The Barred Owl House measures (25 inches high x 14-1/4 inches wide x 19 inches deep)
Placement: The barred owl house should be put up as early as possible, but not later than one month before nesting season. It should be mounted at least fifteen feet up in a large tree. I strongly suggest you place it seventy-five feet or more from any area where there will be significant human activity. The denser the canopy around the box, the better your chance of attracting a barred owl. Heat buildup in boxes exposed to direct sun is a major threat to owls in the South. Try to find a spot that will protect them from direct sun and consider adding vents to the top of the back panel.
RANGE: The barred owl resides from British Columbia east to Nova Scotia, and south to northern California, and to Texas and Florida. HABITAT: Lives in low, wet woods and swampy forests. Coveside Conservation
