A-Frame Barn Owl Nesting Box
SKU: windwalk101
More and more people are learning that Barn Owl nesting boxes are a desirable asset - these beautiful birds are a a natural way of solving common rodent problems, and the nesting box provides opportunities for viewing these birds up close.
This Barn Owl box design came about in 1969 because of concerns about the alarming decline in numbers of peregrines and other raptors, in the UK. Today we work to conserve all wild birds of prey and their habitats in the face of mounting human pressures.

We cannot emphasise too strongly - PLACMENT and HABITAT are the vital factor in nestbox success. They usually roost by day in tree hollows but have also been found in caves, cliffs, wells, out-buildings or thick foliage. There are a variety of locations that can work well, upon the outside of farm buildings, on trees, or on poles; suggested mounting between 16 to 70 feet in height. Poles can be metal or a preditor guard can be placed around a wooden pole using sheet metal; cover a minimum 18-21 inches. Barn owls are not quite as shy as most wild birds, so they don't seem to mind living around human activity. Good places to site Barn Owl boxes are along hedges facing annual grasslands, along field margins, mountain meadows and chaparral areas; prefers area with low percent canopy coverage. Box opening should face away from preveiling winds and towards open grassland. Rough grass supports their favorite prey. They also use low perches such as fence posts to seek quarry.
